There are many variables involved in choosing a golf club shaft for your irons, hybrids, and wedges, but fear not. Here at ValueGolf.com, we’ve got some guidelines to get you started.

So let’s talk graphite iron shafts. You may be thinking, “Isn’t graphite only for drivers and fairway woods?” In short, the answer is no. Graphite shafts are generally lighter, which results in a faster swing speed and oftentimes, more distance for your irons and wedges. And on mishits, a graphite shaft mitigates the vibrational feedback that can sting your hands and cause injuries.

Your flex choice largely depends on your swing speed. Shafts that bend more easily, like L (ladies) and A (senior) flexes, are for those with slower swing speeds. Other flexes, like R (regular) and S (stiff) are better suited to golfers who generate higher swing speeds. There is also shaft length to consider, which is determined by more than just your height. Remember that longer shafts produce extra distance, and shorter shafts make for more accurate shots.

Torque measures the amount of resistance to the twisting of your club’s shaft when it hits the ball. Graphite twists more than steel. Kick point is the part of the shaft that bends the most. A lower kick point results in higher ball trajectory. Shaft weight is an individual decision: whatever feels right to you. Lighter shafts, as mentioned, can increase distance and speed, but can also result in less control.

We carry a variety of quality graphite iron shafts from KBS, Aerotech, Acer, Apollo, and Integra. These include .355 taper tip shafts for many brands of OEM irons and wedges.
