Finding the best grip for each individual golfer depends a lot on what gives you the most comfort and the best control. But really, the most important factor in selecting a grip is its size. Some golfers can really benefit from using oversize (also known as Jumbo) grips. While the typical oversize grip has +1/8 thickness, they can also be found at +1/16 or +3/32 thickness (or larger) depending on the manufacturer. You can check out the Technical Specifications tab on each grip page to find the thickness and weight of that particular grip.

So why use an oversize grip anyway? Depending on the player, a too-small grip can stifle even the best technique by lessening control when the club hits the ball. If the grip is too small in your hands, this forces you to over-tighten your hold, and can make the club twist at contact with the ball, resulting in a hook shot. And if your swing tends toward an “inside to outside” pattern, a thicker grip can mitigate hooking and help the ball fly straighter.

Who else can benefit from using an oversize grip? Splay your fingers, and measure from the tip of your middle finger to the bend in your wrist. If the result is 9¼ inches or greater, an oversize grip might be just what you need.
